Photo doesn't scan

I am trying to scan  a 8 1/2 X 11 photo on my Canon TR8520, but it only scans a 5x6 area. The entire picture will scan if I select document, but I need it saved as a Jpeg. Hoe do I get the whole photo as a jpeg?
