Pixma MX490 Keeps Cycling

Canon Pixma MX490 powers on and goes through initialization, then powers back off.  Keeps repeating the process as long as it's plugged in.  Buttons are non-responsive.

Connecting cable just messed everything up. But now have wireless working connection to both desktop and laptop...as long as I leave it on. And previous weird "fix" still works. Still trying to decide if I want to keep the new printer I bought...or maybe wait until this doesn't work at all, then buy. I'm done here...no more to be done. But thanks for helps.

I followed the suggestion to first turn off my router. This allowed me to regain control of the printer which I disconnected from wi-fi using the printer’s panel buttons. I now have the ability to print via USB from my desktop, but no air-printer ability from my phone, of course.

You're not allowing a hacker to access your home internet any more than you were before. You're just lying to the printer so it stops accepting that stupid bug that Canon sent to your real IP address, which, you have not changed. I used the first 6 numbers of my real IP and made up the last 6 but my DNS IP is actually 9 total numbers. I just took a screen snip of what you typed and it printed fine.

This is where you lost me...

"Configure an IP from your internal network that is not in use or another IP that is not a DNS server,"

What does this mean?  How do I do it?

Thanks!

As mentioned in the fix documentation, it works for all local wireless printing. Last line in the description states printing from cloud, for instance, won't work.

Thank you so much for this post. I too, can confirm this works.

I have a Canon MX492. Here are the steps I used. I can now print wirelessly from anything...laptops, phones, etc. All the features, copy, scan, print work fine.

1. Unplugged the power from the back of the printer.

2. Unplugged my router.

3. Plugged the power back into the printer and let it cycle. The menu came up just fine.

4. Plugged in the router. I didn't have to do anything with the settings. Everything just started working as it reconnected to the network.

Hopefully, it iwll continue working.

Happening to me too. This printer has been junk from day one almost. It's my last Canon.

This is clearly a SYSTEMIC problem and the most logical source of the OOPS! is CANON. As others have said, the "solution" posted is not permanent, but a temporary workaround at best, since functionality becomes limited thereafter. Why are we not hearing from Canon on this widespread FAILURE of its printers? Where is Canon's integrity and commitment to its customers? I have always purchased Canon products (printers, cameras, etc.), but this will certainly be my last if the company doesn't resolve this SYSTEMIC FAILURE. I am quickly losing confidence in the company due to its ineffectual and self-serving response to users to "buy a new printer". There is NO GUARANTEE that we won't find ourselves in the same situation with a Canon printer in the future. I'm rather disgusted by Canon's lack of accountability. I pity the tech support staff who have to dish out the company line on this.

Yeah, I completely agree with you that CANON needs to address this SYSTEMIC FAILURE.

Same here. I am quickly losing confidence and any customer loyalty I might have had to CANON. If this is what they want, so be it. They will not be getting another penny from me.
