I have an MX 922 printer, and when I hit the copy button, it beeps, but does not copy.  Can anyone help please?

Why are the magenta and cyan cartridges used to print in grey scale? My Pixma 870 is drinking magenta and cyan cartridges even though I only print in grey scale. Thanks!Laura
