Pixma MX490 Keeps Cycling

Canon Pixma MX490 powers on and goes through initialization, then powers back off.  Keeps repeating the process as long as it's plugged in.  Buttons are non-responsive.

Just happened to my MX492.  Curious that it is happening all at about the same time.......

REALLY Spooky. Turned off my wireless network and BOOM it starts up... These things are basically bricked unless we can push a firmware fix to them. The support page for it only has drivers from 2021, but just seem like Windows Drivers, and nothing to do with device firmware. I think these are officially bricked.. Cannon should issue ALL OF US new printers unless they can fix them.

I'm also reporting that the manual configuration to install a fake DNS IP address seems to be a valid workaround - I used 192.168.100.075 as that address was very unlikely to be in use on my LAN..  Thanks italolima.  Mine is a MX492 and just now I was able to print wirelessly from a Win 10 laptop for a second time, no need to re-discover the printer or reboot the laptop.  The MX492 has been turned on, sitting quietly for 30 minutes since I printed the first time after the workaround..  I suppose I'll be back to see if Canon cares enough to create an actual solution to this snafu.

MX490, same problem.  It can't be all of us, but it's infuriating that Canon has not responded with a valid solution.

Please stop telling us to call some 800 number and sit on hold.  Too many people with the same problem at the same time...it's NOT us.  Fix your issue.

If everyone here is having the same issue with your printer, block you printer from internet access then you will be able to access the display menu and reset the printer and use the printer via a USB connection. If you hook it back up to the wifi, it will start to power cycle again.

Fine. But this printer is supposed to function as a network printer. Some businesses use it and now can't print. Typical corporate answers to this problem, which was caused by Canon. I will NEVER buy another Canon product!

It worked for me too! DNS issue indeed. I entered the Primary DNS of my Gateway/Helix from Videotron, and added 1 to the last pair of digits. And I entered "no" when asked for the secondary DNS. Working like a charm now. Hope it helps!

Italolima has the solution. Search for his reply. It's all about DNS.

That's not really helpful if you can't disable the internet.  The printer buttons are not responding at all.
