Any solution to the MX340's dreaded error 5011?

Has anyone found a solution to error 5011, esp. on the Pixma MX340?

how do i cancel the "checking printer status" message that appears on bootup.  It can sometimes take minutes to try to find one printer in the next room.

Is it true that Pixma MG 5220 cannot be installed on a PC with IE?  I just tried to install the printer on my new laptop and that is the message that popped up.

PIXMA 410 Windows 8 driver problem

I downloaded the windows 8  driver and let run, but I don't get the Solution Menu EX.  I see the printer but can't figure out how to  get the menu on my desktop.
