Pixma MX490 Keeps Cycling

Canon Pixma MX490 powers on and goes through initialization, then powers back off.  Keeps repeating the process as long as it's plugged in.  Buttons are non-responsive.

OK Had This Problem Just Turned Off Router And Executed The New 6/3/22 Firmware Update All Fixed ! 😃

No, you have to disconnect the printer from wifi. Best to turn the router off (unplug it from modem or power source). Once the printer isn't connected to wifi you'll be able to turn it on and it will stay on. If you're doing the firmware update suggested by Canon, use a USB cable to connect printer to your computer. If you're changing the IP/DNS IS number, the printer menu can be available while off wifi to do that too. Once you change the DNS number, you'll be able to connect to wifi again once you reboot the router.

Our Pixma MX492 will not stay on long enough between reboots to install the update. Is there a way around this?

You have to disconnect the printer from your wifi then connect your computer to the printer to install the update using a USB cord. Once the update is complete, you'll be able to reboot your wifi and connect your printer to it.

FINALLY!

1. download the firmware update for your operating system; windows or mac
2. I unplugged my router. Fully killing it. No power to it ANYWHERE
3. made sure printer was connected to pc
4. Unplugged printer. no power to printer
5. plugged printer back in. power to printer
6. followed firmware instructions
7. unplugged printer then plugged it back in
7. abracadabra..... It worked.
8. cussed out Canon and their ineptly pushed update

Thanks!

Unbelievable that Canon did this. Inexcusable actually. I am filing a small claims against them as I went out and purchased a new printer thinking mine was bad. Unplugged my router after reading the work around on here and now my old printer works. I can't take the new one back as I've already used 3 print cartridges in it. I spent around $500 with several extra ink catridges for the new one so I'll just add that to my small claims amount I'll ask for. With the distant trip I had to take to get what I needed, plus the high cost of gas, I'll have to add $100 to that amount. Gonna post never use Canon on all social media.

This works. One additional note. If you have an app on your phone for your home network, you can simply disconnect the printer from there as opposed to shutting down your whole wifi system.

Who would think it was a firmware issue? It seemed like a power suplly issue. I was within a day of tearing mine apart.

Sorry for the late update but, it did not work long for me. It worked for about a day until I turned off my printer. Once I turned the printer off and back on it kept cycling on and off again itself.
