EOS Webcam utility won't recognize cameras

I have both an R10 and a G7XmIII. I'm running the latest MacOS, firmware and version of the webcam utility. I have rebooted. I upgraded to the paid for the subscription version of the software. I even bought the Canon IFC 100U. I turned off the bluetooth and wifi. I have quit other canon apps. And nothing.

When I go to add a source the [USB] is grey but other webcams are blue. I've turned my phones on airplane mode so they won't try to "continuity" camera. I've unplugged my usual webcam.

The Webcam utility won't see either camera.

And this all used to work, tho never flawlessly. The G7XmIII would turn itself off immediately most of the time and then suddenly work fine long enough for me to record, which is why I started using the R10 with it. Which worked... better?

What else is left before I give up?

Thanks!

Greetings mattcarmichael,

I am sorry to hear that the EOS Webcam Utility software is causing issues where it does not detect either of your two Canon cameras. Test to see if disabling the Wi-Fi on the cameras and then connecting them to the computer with the USB cable will work. This will confirm if there is good communication between the software / computer and the cameras through the cable where we can then check to see if there is an issue with the wireless connection. If possible, please test to see if a different computer is able to detect the cameras when installing the EOS Webcam Utility on that system.

As I mentioned in my original post, I've disabled the wifi on both cameras. The cables work because I can do image transfers (and I bought the canon cable). And I've tried this on two different Macs (an iMac and a MacBook). I suspect it's a software issue with the latest MacOS, but if there's another work around I'm happy to hear it.

Greetings mattcarmichael,

Thank you for the clarification and I apologize for the miscommunication. If you are able to transfer images through the USB cable to the computer, then let's check to see if those camera apps or photo apps are running in the background. If they are running in the background and still communicating with the camera, then this would prevent the EOS Webcam Utility from detecting the cameras through the USB cable.

In case you have already checked the above, then we would request to please submit feedback regarding this issue. Click on the following link and select the feedback option located at the top right portion of the webpage.

If I go into activity monitor the only thing labeled as Canon or EOS is the EOSWebcamServices.  Is there something else I should look for?

I'm getting the impression I just need to wait for software updates to fix whatever is wrong because it certainly looks like I'm not the only one having issues these days. Any other ideas?

Thanks for your reply.

For the sake of troubleshooting here, I recommend that you disconnect other devices from your computer, like webcams, printers, and the like. Then restart the computer.

Then, on the top right portion of your computer screen by the time display, mouse over the icons that appear there and right-click and close out of any camera or imaging related icon that is not EOS Webcam Utility.

Should problems persist, please elaborate on the details below.

What version of macOS is listed when you go to Apple menu – ABOUT THIS MAC? (15.4.1 or something else?)

What livestreaming platform are you using with EOS Webcam Utility?

In the past, were you able to make both a wireless and USB livestreaming connection work with both of your cameras using EOS Webcam Utility?

Hi - I did all of those things. I was trying to use Teams, Zoom and mmhmm which has now rebranded as airtime or something like that. I had only done the connection via USB previously and now I can't get either connection to work. I've basically given up at this point and re-worked my tech stack so I don't use an external camera, which is frustrating.

Hi mattcarmichael,

I'm sorry to hear EOS Webcam Utility still isn't detecting your cameras. Looking at the trouble shooting already done there are a couple more things to check. The first is that if you are using a USB hub try plugging the cameras directly into a port on the computer itself. Sometimes USB hubs do not supply enough power for the camera and software to detect each other.

Another thing is that if you have a VPN on your computer try disabling it while you use EOS Webcam Utility. Sometimes if a VPN is running it can cause communication issues. You should check this even if you are using a USB connection.

One other thing is that if you have a second computer try installing the EOS Webcam Utility on that computer to see if the same thing happens. That would help narrow down if this is an issue with something installed on the computer or if it is an issue with your cameras.

I bought the official canon cable. I plugged directly into the computer and I tried it on I think three different Macs. No dice.
