Scanner set up

How can I set up my scanner Canon MG 5420.  I have a Mac El Capitan 10.11.3

Have Pixma IP 600 all of a sudden the light flash, the box on my computer says it is off line.

I have unplugged & replugged, took printer out of computer, reinstalled & then it said it couldn't recognize computer.This is for my work & I am already 2 days behind!

Hi, I've tried to follow the instructions to loosen the printer head by removing the ink cartrisdges but couldn't find the printer head.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Thanks 

Colors on print varies from 4X6 and A4
