My computer is telling me the printer is offline, but the printer is showing and saying it is online... what do I need to do?

I won't be using my printer for many months. What is the best way to store it? Do I leave the ink cartridges in the printer? Take them out? Store the almost new cartridges in a baggie?

I can print wirelessly on MX 922 but I can't scan.
When I try to scan i get an error message that says the scanner is turned off or the USB cable isn't plugged in. But I can print wirelessly and I want to scan wirelessly, so there should be no need for a USB cable. What should I do?
