Hi,

Does anyone have a solution for CR3 files that are not opening in any program?

should it be, Photoshop, LR or DPP4, it just doesnt open, and the error seems to bwe something about permission access error or something like that.

Please reply if you have a solution, and yes, all of those programs are up to date with the adobe camera raw etc., I'm writing this after numerous hours of reading through ALL the info on ALL these sites, and trying ALL the solutions.

I need help from somebody that actually underestands hopw these CR3 files work.

thnak you very much.

You forgot to share a CR3 file.

The problem is that it wont even load upto dropbox or google drive because the file is not readable

What did you do to it?

Does it happen with files straight out of the camera?

yes, I actually tried 2 types of files for this sake, 1 was Craw, and then the regular raw, both settings are on th ecamera

but both show as CR3 on the computer, and they both wont open anywhere straight out of the sd card as well as copied onto the windows desktop.

They are just container files that contain Canon raw data. The files for each camera are subtly different, so your software has to understand the format for your particular camera to read them properly.

If the DPP version for your camera cannot read them, either you have a camera problem or something in your workflow is corrupting them along the way.

Have you tried a new full-size* card freshly low-level formatted in the camera?

*i.e., not a micro SD with adapter, those are bad juju for Canon cameras.

gonna try the new SD card today

After hours of research about what apps I could use to covert raw cr3 files on an android device, I simply renamed the .cr3 to .cr2 and then I was able to open, view, and edit raw photos just like my old photos. This should work on any OS. Not sure why Canon doesn't recommend this or why they changed the raw extension knowing very few applications can even edit them. I wrote a small batch file to rename thousands of files and it works great.

This appears to be an Android problem (or your particular Android device). I have no problems opening .CR3 files on PC, MacBook, iPhone or iPad. (Not that it matters, but they are files from a 1D X Mark III and M200).
