Need help with Camera Connect message when switching to video shooting

LaneW

I’m setting up Camera Connect on my R5 mark ii to shoot video.  I’m also new to video shooting. When connected, I get this message.  “you can record movies using the xf-hevc s format but they cannot be transferred and saved”.  I’m using the XF-HEVC S YCC422 10 bit recording format, but am not knowledgeable about codecs, etc.  What does this message mean? Will I not be saving a movie when I shoot video?  I have reviewed the manual but have not found the answer?

Sounds like you need to record to internal cards (or an external recorder), and cannot send the video through the Camera Connect software.

Regarding codes, video gets very complicated (why I personally gave it up).  It's all going to depend upon what you need to do with the footage after capture.

e.g. if you plan to edit and grade the footage, capture in the highest quality possible with at least 10-bit 4:2:2 (which gives your more latitude in post). Or, look at capturing RAW if that makes sense. Though strike a balance on how much drive space you'd need (and don't forget the space required for backups).

If you're only doing run-and-gun type of work and need to publish the captured footage quickly, look at other codecs that are distribution-ready (e.g. 8-bit 4:2:0).

Thanks - yes I am recording to my internal cards. So maybe the message is just in reference to transferring or saving via Camera Connect?

You are so right about video being complicated.  Im learning fast that its a whole different world from stills, to say the least.

i do edit and process my video.  But so far am not shooting Clog, at least not yet. IM getting good results as it is. I do shoot some 120 fps for slow motion.  Still learning a lot! Thanks for the input.
