ImageFormula R40 not working with MAC OS Sequoia

jmyers5645

Just bought the new Canon ImageFormula R40 and it will not work with MAC OS Sequoia.  Upon trying to scan a document I get "CaptureOnTouch" is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the trash.

Do we have an updated driver (I dont see one) or a workaround?  Otherwise I will have to return this product.

I found the answer! A while back I bought some third party software, VueScan from Hamrick Software, to be able to continue scanning on my Canon MG6320 and it worked great. The R40 did not appear to be supported but indeed it is so I am back in business. There was a trick to getting the double-sided scanning to work but when I wrote to Hamrick customer support they quickly replied with the solution. This is no help to the original poster who shouldn't have to buy extra software to make his new purchase work. I love the R40 because it scans super fast and you can grind through a 40 page document quickly with the document feeder. It is super disappointing that Canon doesn't keep up to date with the latest Mac OS's but I still recommend the R40 because it is a powerful tool. I bought mine several years ago and I think I paid way more than $240!

I second this.  Just tried re-setting up my scanner and it is a no go.

I bought the Imageformula R40 a while back and it worked great with my M1 Mac mini with older OS's. Just got the new M4 mini which comes with Sequoia and the R40 won't even be recognized. I am trying to go all USB C in my setup but no amount of cable changing between A and C will get the computer to see the scanner. I will keep scouring forums like this one.

$240 scanner reduced to a worthless piece of rubbish.

Oh hallelujah, I just started back into my reorganizing old photos and scanning those that the professional lab either missed or just failed to scan a few years back. I was just about to check VueScan since I too am on Sequoia and while I can get the software to work it only does so many and then it just hangs. VueScan is a fabulous piece of software and I have used it for multiple scanners when the manufacturers just decide to stop supporting OS updates. Whew.

I have the same issue with the R40 not working on Mac OS 15.

I went to the Canon USA web page, established a My Canon account, then I registered my new ImageFORMULA RS40 scanner, then I went to the support page and selected to contact them via email. I entered my problem on an email form page the website provided and the next day I received an email with the solution. The summary of the solution was that they gave me a different link than was provided with the hardcopy documents that came with the scanner. At this link I downloaded the scanner Twain driver and CaptureOn Touch software appropriate for my MAC OS version. The new Software worked great. I would paste the solution here, but it is long and detailed. I recommend anyone with similar problem do the same.
