EF 24-105mm f/4L - Wrong Lens ID reported to camera

Hello,

I believe my lens is reporting "24-105mm" to my 5D mk III instead of the expected "Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM"

Thus, the in-camera Lens aberration correction is not available.
Also, DPP 4.19.30.0 reports Lens data:  Not Available.

Please note that my 50mm lens works correctly with these features and I successfully used the EOS lens registration utility, etc.  I've downloaded the lens profiles in DPP..  I've done all that.

Yes, this is on a full size RAW file.

Help?  Anyone seen this before?

Took the lens to the local camera shop today and tried a different copy of the same lens.
Other 24-105 lens works correctly.

Lens in question also shows the "24-105mm" lens info on a different camera.

At this point, I'm going to sell the thing & buy a different one.
I think that the possible ribbon/flex cable flakiness is the most plausible answer.

Thanks for the help!

I downloaded the correction data from EOS Utility to my 6D.

Sometimes my x1.4 III shows the older version x1.4 and I suppose it has to do with bad connection between the camera and the tele converter. It shows the older tele converter both in camera and in Exif.

Do you have the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM or the more recent EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM lens?

What firmware version is in the EOS 5D Mark III camera, version 1.3.6 is the most recent?

Thanks.  Did the camera show "24-105mm" before uploading the data to the camera?

Is the DPP Digital Lens Optimizer dependent on having uploaded the data to the camera first?

Thanks for the reply.  I have the latest firmware on the camera, 1.3.6

The lens is the original, not the "II" version.
Is the DPP Digital Lens Optimizer dependent on having uploaded the data to the camera first?  I thought that would work even without the camera having the lens aberration correction data in it.

EOS Lens Registration tool shows that the box is checked for both versions of the 24-105 f/4L..

Also, I have cleaned the contacts with a q-tip and 70% isopropyl alcohol.  I don't think that's it - they appear gold and shiny.

I don't remember, but my EF80-200/2.8L is reported with its whole name and not just 80-200mm, and I haven't registered that lens.

About DPP I guess that it doesn't matter. I can download and use the profile for 75-300 II,III even if I haven't downloaded it for my 6D.

Share an unmodifed JPEG from your camera+lens and we can take a look what the Exif says. The LensType nr for your lens should be 237.

Some EF lenses have lens correction profiles already loaded on them. This is the case with newer EF lenses released in and after 2012. Some very old EF lenses also have them already loaded on there. This is the case with older L series lenses. My old EF 85mm F/1.8 USM lens. Purchased new back from the 90s and has lens correction data present. Without me having to load it on the camera or through DPP. There is only one EF L series lens that doesn’t have lens correction data available. That lens is the EF 100-300mm F/5.6L lens. It’s also the first EF L lens for the new EOS system in 1987. It’s also 1 of 3 the L lenses not to use a USM AF motor. It uses the original EOS AF motor called Arc Form Drive. The AF is very slow and these lenses have a 3-4 fps limit when the camera is set to AI Servo/ Servo AF mode.
