Canon EOS 80D :: cant connect on Wifi

Hello Fellows,

 

Currently i cant connect my Canon 80D to a Windows 10 64-bit PC over WiFi. i have tried a couple of things so far and i havent gotten successful. im not sure where to go with this, any help or insight would be very much apperiated. here is what i have tried so far :- 

 

  • Updated Camera Firmware to the latest (1.0.3)
  • Made sure that Network Discoverability is on (both in the settings and when connecting to a wireless device)
  • Checked that the Camera can connect to a Smart Phone over the same network
  • Connected the Camera using a USB to the same PC
  • Uninstalled all EOS Software off the PC and re-Installed it again
  • Cleared the wireless settings on the Camera, and tried to pair

i got it to work on another pc, using another version of the utility software. somehow the version of the EOS Utility out on the US site here was not working, not sure why the camera was not accepting the pairing on it. on the other pc i installed the UK version on my machine it just poped up into the EOS Utility. Uninstalled it on the first pc and it also worked there.

Make sure that you are using the default camera name.  Do not change it until you can connect.

 

If you can see the camera in Windows, then EOS Utility should be able to see it, too.  Make sure you are not making a connection to the Guest Wif-Fi accoiunt, which only has internet access and no access to local resources.

The camera name is on default.

 

I am not sure how to check if the camera has internet access, but i have connected the camera to a phone on the same network and it worked. It's just not working for the pc

The type of wireless connection, and what access it has is defined by your wireless router configuration.  If the phone worked, then that does not tell me much.  If you mean it had internet access, then that could be consistent with a Guest connection.

 

I am not aware of any [phones] connecting to a computer, except through some type of cloud app, which means internet access again, or Guest connection, not access to resources on your LAN which is what you want.

Can you try connecting by USB and see if that works?

You will need to shut off camera WiFi to do that.

Temporarily turn off any Microsoft and third party protection software to see if they are blocking you.

John: i turned off the firewall, still cant. i also tried to connect with the camera acting as the access point. i think i might try to connect using another pc later today, ill keep you posted.

 

 Waddizzle: i am not sure by what i need to do here can you clarify how can i check if it is a guest connection?

It is an hour and a half ordeal every time I try to connect this thing wirelessly. Canon truly needs to fix it's Utilities app and connection to desktop issues because every photoshoot is a chore to upload EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. How embarrassing for them nothing works.

I had trouble getting the WiFi to load pictures and connect reliably.  I just use a USB cable and forget about WiFi.  Also, when WiFi is on, the camera also disables time lapse shooting in video mode, something I use pretty often.  It was a pain turning wifi on and then fighting for it to get connected.  With USB, I just plug it is and it is fast and repeatable.
