What lens do you use for close ups when you don't have a macro

Hi folks! I've been playing around with photography for close to a year now, almost all of that has been wildlife so the couple of lenses I have bought have been longer focal length.  Ocassionally though, I see a flower or an insect I love. I haven't...

EF 300 1:4L IS Lens Hood Operation

The illustration shows this lens with a built in hood that extends. How do you get it to extend? I'm reluctant to use any force. Will a filter prevent the hood from extending?

New RF 70-200 knick on inside element???

I just recieved a brand new Canon RF 70-200 2.8 from Adorama. When inspecting the front element I noticed what seemed to be a dust particle out of the box. Went outside in direct sunlight and it seems to be a tiny scratch or knick on the inner lens e...

Focal length of a portrait lens

From time to time (including recently), someone questions why the best portrait lenses tend to be a bit on the long side of normal. The short answer is that if you get close enough for the subject's head to fill the frame, a shorter (normal or WA) le...

EF 24-105 4L IS USM dropped, zoom ring too tight

I recently dropped my EF 24-105 4L IS USM lens, and now the zoom ring is extremely tight, which causes issues when shooting video. Just wondering if this might be repairable or would be more practical to replae it.

Stiff Zoom Collar 55-250

I bought a used 55-250 IS II lens from a private seller on eBay. I adore it. The IQ is staggering, particularly for close-ups. The zoom collar is, though, stiff enough to sometimes rattle the lens mount hole against its locator pin. I don't think the...

70-200 f2.8L photos too soft

I am facing IQ issues with all photos I am capturing with my 70-200 on a 5dm4. Even when mounted on a tripod under good lighting conditions, I can't seem to get crisp photos. They come out pretty soft. I am not sure if its my technique or if there is...
