My MG5420 will not scan from my Mac using wi-fi but will print using wi-fi. How to enable scanning?

brand new mx492 remove protective material message won't go away. error 1890

I've turned it on and off, and opened and closed all the doors several times.  I don't see any protective material. How can I clear the message, or where else should I look.   Thanks
