Canon Pixma MX490 powers on and goes through initialization, then powers back off. Keeps repeating the process as long as it's plugged in. Buttons are non-responsive.

Hi @kedikj29, try disconnecting the modem altogether and see if the printer does power on. Then you will be able to follow the other instructions. Even though you didn’t use the wireless printing option it might be still configured.
good luck

@italolim I finally found a minute to try your technique and it worked like a charm!! I don't know you but I'm quite sure I LOVE you, lol! Wasn't looking forward to purchasing a new printer. Thank you so much!!

I just tested my printer again. No change, still power cycling. It is very difficult to believe that Canon has let this continue for more than one day. If I have to buy another printer, it will definitely be a different brand.

Tried different fixes with my MX492, but nothing is working. I'm not reassured that Canon is committed to fixing the problem. They may have built in an expiry date in their devices. After all, cell phone and tablet makers tend to stop supporting their older device models after they deem them too old. It is not right, but sadly, that's what they do to make money.

In this thread someone posted a solution that I used and it worked perfectly. From memory, you have to turn off your wifi so your printer will stay on. Access the SETUP menu, go to WEB SERVICE SETUP, then DNS SERVER SETUP. Configure an IP from your internal network that is not in use. (I simply changed the last three digits of my printer's original by one number). Once configured, press OK. Select NO option and press OK. Wait a few moments, then return to the menu, press HOME button on printer. Turn the access point (wifi router or modem, whichever one you turned off). Go to the printer menu, if necessary, to help its wifi "find" your signal again and you should be in business!

I had previously bought a cheaper brand but just recently replaced empties with Canon XL as I felt I was having issues after I switched. The cycling started today while we had the electrician here doing some work. I thought maybe it was triggered by something he did, maybe reset a breaker?

This worked for me, too.

There's a fix for this issue. Go thru the posts, you'll find it. Basically, you have to assign a different DNS number to the printer while it's off wifi. Once it reconnects to wifi, it will work fine again. Find the post with all the steps.
