Pixma MX490 Keeps Cycling

Canon Pixma MX490 powers on and goes through initialization, then powers back off.  Keeps repeating the process as long as it's plugged in.  Buttons are non-responsive.

I have a Maxify 2320 printer that was turning on and off as described. It is connected wireless by WiFi to my home internet. Tried multiple things but the only one that worked was turning my modem off, leaving it off while counting to 10, then turning it back on (ie, restarting or rebooting it), while the printer remained plugged into power. All functions returned to normal now for several hours and with multiple printings wirelessly. Only time will tell if it will continue to work but will report again later if the problem returns.

Yup. From the printer's panel you access the printer's settings.

My MB2050 is experiencing the same issue. It is stuck in a loop, turning off and then turning back on.

In this case, instead of selecting manual DNS, activate the automatic DNS option, as it will receive the settings from your router/modem. But I suggest keeping an eye on the Canon forum to see if they have issued any official patch notes before doing so.

The internal network (Wi-Fi) will work again, but cloud services will stop working (eg Google Cloud) because of DNS disabled.

Registered just to add my name to the list 🙄 MX492 here. Same issues. Canon needs to figure this out..

I was wondering if this problem is localized?  Nation-wide?  World-wide?  is it only users of certain internet providers that have the problem?  I am in Georgia and have Comcast as my internet provider.

I also have Comcast but I am located in Connecticut.

I'm in Georgia and T-Mobile is my internet provider. Came home from work yesterday and the power at my house had gone off briefly, oven clock blinking, so I turned on my PC tower, booted up, and was reading some news and my MX-492 starts cycling on and off like everyone else has described. I thought someone had hacked my home wi-fi network and was trying to print something. Quick internet search brought me to the reddit thread and then to the 2 threads in this community.

Started having same issue with my MX490 yesterday around 3pm: Printer won't stop cycling on and off even after unplugging and replugging.

This morning, I tried the workaround of turning off my modem & router before replugging the printer back on. It worked.

I have yet to try one person's suggestion to reconfigure DNS setting, but just seems frustrating that we even have to do this. My printer was working just fine and then all of a sudden it's not because it's connected to the wifi??? 😐
