Cannot get my PowerShot SX540 HS camera to connect to my new Windows 11 computer. Downloaded the software but can't seem to open it with the F12 file type.

Hello. I am not familiar with your file type. If you’re looking for instructions on how to connect the camera, then scroll down to the “how-to videos” sections.

Evidently my computer is also not familiar with that extension either but when I use the download info from my user manual, that is what I get. Everything was working fine for years with my old Windows 10 but not so much with the new Windows 11 PC. Was hoping there was some kind of update from Canon on how to get my camera connected to this PC.

Again I need help getting my Canon SX540 HS camera connected to my new Windows 11 computer. Referring to the how-to video was no help. It just guides me through the download process of the file. For whatever reason the file will not open as it must be a weird file type. I'm hoping someone has a solution. I called Canon tech support but they no longer support live tech support for this camera.

I suspect your “F12” file might actually be a camera “FIR” file. This is a file type used for camera firmware updates. That means it installs in the camera, not on your computer. But let’s NOT try to do that just yet.
Let’s resolve one problem at a time first. Go back to the link. This time select Windows 10 as the operating system. You should see the software needed for your computer.

I'll give that a try. Thanks.

No luck. Downloaded the exact same file as version 11.

I have no idea what you’re doing. But if you downloaded the same file type, then you made a mistake. This is what you don’t want.
This is what you do want.

Don't know why, but no matter what version of windows I select I only get the 5-18-23 date.

Hello leeblose,
That is odd. Have you tried using a different web browser? I would suggest that. You can also try clearing the cookies and cache of your current web browser. When you select Windows 10 as the operating system version, you should get the same list that Waddizzle posted above. You don't necessarily need the software to download your images if that is what you're looking to do. You can connect the camera via USB to the computer or use a memory card reader to import your files. Windows 11 has an app called Photos that you can use to import your images. In the search box on the taskbar, type photos and then select the Photos app from the results. Select Import in the top-right section and follow the instructions to import from a folder or a USB device.
