imageCLASS MF269dw text quality issues

robart

Hello,

I've recently purchased an imageCLASS MF269dw and I'm on the verge of returning it because I'm not satisfied with the text quality when printing. Text is not as dark or as sharp as I would expect from a laser printer. I thought that it should print perfectly out-of-the-box with the default settings, but if someone has some suggestions as to what settings I can change, that would be great. I've gone through all of the menus and settings on the printer that I can think of, but nothing seems to make any difference. I am using a Mac with OS 10.15.7, by the way. This printer seems to get great reviews from a lot of sources, including Consumer Reports where they say the text quality is excellent, so I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong with it or not.

Thanks!

Hi Robart,

All packing material has to removed from inside the printer and toner cartridge and drum.  You can view instructions in the online manual:

https://oip.manual.canon/USRMA-3281-zz-SS-enUS/contents/SS260_maintenance_0297.html#1009_h2_03

Ensure proper paper is being used. You can view information in the online:

Make sure Toner Save is off.
Press Menu button.
Select Adjustment/Maintenance.
Select Toner Save.
Select <Copy> or <Fax>
Select Off.

You can change settings related to print quality with the setting off.
Press Menu button.
Select Printer Settings.
Select Print Quality.
Select Density.
Adjust the density.
Select Apply.

I'm experiencing similar issues as described in the original post. Unless I find a fix for this, I will be returning the printer. The steps provided by the Canon rep where already done to no avail.

My setup: I have a MS word doc with b/w and colored text. I print using b/w settings, yet the the resultant printout comes out grayscale. Same with PDF, same with internet content (browser).

Please help; otherwise it will be back in the box. Thx.

Hello,

Was there a solution to the grayscale printing issue? I have found no setting to turn off grayscale printing for the MF269dw.

Black text prints fine, but color text appears washed out when printed.

Thank you for any suggestions.

No, I did not receive any assistance for the grayscale printing issue. Color source prints in grayscale. No control to overwrite it (that I'm aware off)

Thank you for responding!

I spoke with Canon Support today via their support line, 1-800-652-2666. Kathy was very pleasant and knowledgeable, and had me try a few things, but noted that the MF269dw prints color in grayscale and there is no way to switch it to monochrome. So colored text in Excel for instance ends up being washed out. My older MF4880dw prints color in monochrome, sadly my new printer does not. I asked her to see about adding that feature in a future firmware release; she indicated I will receive an email that allows commenting on requested upgrades.
