I recently purchased a MF634CDW direct from Canon for my home office. I set it up and seemed like all was OK, but my wife reported that the machine had an error message. I power cycled and then it seemed fine, but I now realize that whenever the device goes into sleep mode, and you send a print job, it displays an error message and you have to power cycle to get it to function again.
I am not using the wireless functionality and am using the wired network. Other then turning off the sleep mode altogether and accepting that this device has flaws, I don't have another option. I downloaded and installed the latest firmware but it did not fix the issue.

This problem appears across all brands of Canon printers based on the complaints I've seen registered. From research I had done I learned there was a remote web interface to the printer. I had looked at a lot of things from the control panel to no avail.I wondered if I looked at the machine remotely while it was sleeping I might be able to figure out the problem. So I printed out the Network Configuration Page using the control panel. Then I went to the following URL (appropriate for my network YMMV).
//10.0.0.13/index.html. Two things happened: the Network Configuration home page came up and the printer started printing queued jobs. After much experimentation, it appears that the printer is only ignoring print requests after sleeping. So I went into my router's network configuration and added the printer with a reserved ip. I setup a destop icon with that URL and password protected the printer. I repeated that for other devices I own. Now I doubleclick on the wake up icon before printing. It's likely that the problem exists in third party hardware and software Canon buys. Why it hasn't been fixed is beyond me.

Hit me before that. My wife has been having the problem for a year. My problems started 6 months ago. People have been having this problem since at least 2014. I worked software development and support for four decades - I never would have let a problem slide for 5 years. Too many companies underrate the value of support and only place noobies and the incompetent in support. My first job had a mixture of both. One of them literally was a "people person, dammit" (Office Space reference).

Does anyone from Canon ever look at this problem?
I have tried connecting with USB cable directly, tried connecting wirelessly with a new router. NOTHING WORKS. With the number of emails regarding this situation I should think even mediocre customer service would have addressed this by now.
I try to send print jobs and all I get is that the Mac computer is looking for a printer. The wireless setup on the printer shows that it is connected. But the print jobs are not going through.
HELP!!!!!!!!!

Hi ktbfrod.
If you have tried all of those steps, and the issue remains, then there may be another internal issue with the printer. Please call our telephone support group at 1-800-OK-CANON (652-2666), Monday - Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET (excluding holidays). A representative will be able to perform further troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the issue.

Hello Patrice, More than 4 consumers have asked the same question, have the same issue or want the same revolve....
It is serious that you speak with someone in your software engineering department. I know in my situation the problem of the printer not waking up when a new job is sent, started with an update sent to my machine July 26, 2019.
Please do not tell me to call 1-800-OK-CANON..... if I wanted to sit on the phone and chat with a stranger, I would have done that already. PLEASE find an answer to ALL of our questions in the thread.

I had a solution for people to try I posted a month or so ago from tech support. I believe it was this forum thread and it looks like it was taken down. Either way, I don't think it did anything though. I still had to reboot the printer one time so far. Sat for another week or two and was able to print to it, so not sure.
