Hello, I own a 350d camera and whenever I try to connect it to my laptop nothing happens. I connect via the digital cable and nothing shows up in the files when connected. the laptop is a HP Elitebook and has no problems. any suggestions?

The EOS 350D / Rebel XT is pretty old and I am not sure that it ever worked as a device that would appear in the files on Windows or Mac.

The best way to get the photos from it is to use a Compact Flash card reader connected to your computer and copy the files over that way.

jakestew13,

Have you double checked to make sure that your USB cable is securely and completely inserted into the USB port on your computer. I've found that if my cable is slightly off-center, or not completely inserted, it won't read the USB device.

Also, have you tried any other USB ports on your laptop?

Or, or might be as Brian suggested, and your 350D is not capable of being read.and your best bet is to pop your card out and use a card reader.

The Rebel XT/EOS 350D most certainly IS supposed to connect via USB to show files in Windows. Macs, I can't say for sure. Why else would the camera have a USB port?

If the USB-connected camera is not showing in File explorer as a drive, there are three possible reasons: bad cable, bad USB port on camera, or bad USB port on computer. Try another cable. Try jiggling the end at the camera. Try another port on the computer. If nothing works, use an SD card reader.

FWIW, I tried to download photos from my T7 to the laptop with  a card reader and USB cable. Accidentally discovered a card slot in the side. I insert the card and follow instructions on the screen.
