Caught in a missing S/N loop! I just want to buy the Log upgrade from Canon but am locked out.
I purchased a 5DMKIV 3 years ago. NO serial number. Quora Forum says I can find the S/N in EOS Utility.
However, my current laptop does not have that version. Is there an "umbrella" EOS Utillity that includes all
the parts? How would it see the S/N on my camera?
Help please. I appreciate any comments, and thanks!
Valerie

1. Can you post a cellphone picture of the bottom of the camera?
2. Can you post a RAW file from the camera to Dropbox or OneDrive with a link. I can then check the file.
3. Check private message.

Are you really sure the camera has no SN? Because that sounds like you bought a stolen camera. It should be on a printed label on the bottom, clearly visible.
You can get the latest EOS Utility through your camera's support page; but as far as I can see, it's one utility for all the cameras. E.g. I got it here:
The "Applicable models" section includes the 5D IV, as well as the R5C (my camera). However I can't see anywhere in that app that would give me the serial number.

1. download Canon DPP4 2. Open a file 3. Select View 4. Select Info.
At very bottom of Info display:

Oh good find! I didn't realise they tagged the serial on to all your pics...

I suspect most, if not all, do. Lightroom allows setting features by camera model and camera model and S/N.

Makes perfect sense. (I mainly do video, don't use LR.)

I think you need a serial number to download Canon’s DPP4. I think EXIFTool is free.

I am sickened to think that was a possibility.
chalk it up to being a trusting buyer.

I wouldn’t jump there yet. It is possible for the S/N to get worn off from the bottom label plate. Use ExifTool as suggested.

"I wouldn’t jump there yet. It is possible for the S/N to get worn off from the bottom label plate."
I think a rare case indeed if the serial number was rubbed off entirely to the point of not being able to tell there was one at one time.
Valerie would you care to disclose from where you bought the camera used? There are a few websites that offer stolen camera lists. A pretty long shot, very long, but you might try one or some of them.
