EOS R8 Turns Off

mcflorezayala

Dear Support Team,

I am writing to report an intermittent issue with my Canon EOS R8.

The camera shuts down unexpectedly during use while taking still photos (no video), under ambient temperature conditions below 28°C (82°F). After shutting down, the camera does not power back on immediately; in some cases, it takes up to two days to respond again.

Once it powers back on, it operates normally. However, the issue consistently reoccurs in subsequent uses under similar conditions.

Equipment details:

Model: Canon EOS R8

Serial Number: 91580XXXXXXXXXXXXX <removed for privacy>

Purchase Date: 04/11/2024

Purchased From: B&H Photo Video (USA)

Usage: occasional (approx. every 8–15 days)

Physical condition: excellent, no impacts or exposure to moisture

Current location: Barranquilla, Colombia

I would appreciate your assistance in identifying the cause of this issue and the next steps to resolve it.

I remain attentive to your response.

mcflorezayala,

First off, this Forum is not Canon Support. It's just a bunch of regular users, just like you.

You might have better luck contacting Canon Support for your area, which I think is Canon Latin America here:

But that aside, have you charged your battery, or tried a new battery?

I am sorry to hear that you are having issues with your camera. I agree with Steve. This is a social media platform. It’s neither Canon Support, Service, or Sales. Follow his advice to contact Canon Support.

As far as the camera unexpectedly and suddenly shutting down goes, the camera has a 10-segment bar graph heat level indicator. You should have received adequate warning ⚠️ about heat prior to shutdown:

I don’t know if it’s possible to disable the display, but I suggest that you check it, or reset the camera.

I think you're on point with suggesting the battery as the culprit.

The R8 gets very testy with low battery. When the battery is low in my R100, nothing happens other than the battery is low and it eventually just stops. In my R8, it will say the it can't communicate with the lens, or it won't focus, or it will display a warning that even turning the camera off won't silence. Put in a fully charged battery and *poof* all it better. I've never seen anything like it.
