Noticeable Louder sound during image stabilization

I have a 400mm L IS and today it started to make a much louder noise during the image stabelization. Is this a sign that it is not working porperly or in need of repair. Has anyone else experienced this before? ThanksSteve

I use a 24-70 f 2.8 and the 24-105 f4 lenses but the 24-105 has gotten extremely loose over time.Is it worth repairing or should I just replace it? I love this lens because of its range and weight.
