mx 490 scan fail to connect to mac os 12

Do I have to download something for my mx490 scanner to be recognized by by mac os 12? I can print wirelessly, but I get a failed message for my scanner, saying my computer failed to connect.

Pixma MX925 "no paper in Upper Cassette" ... yet it has plenty!
