Pixma MX490 Keeps Cycling

Canon Pixma MX490 powers on and goes through initialization, then powers back off.  Keeps repeating the process as long as it's plugged in.  Buttons are non-responsive.

I had the same problem that all of you had. It was cycling off and on and I could only get it to shut off with unplugging it. I called the Canon telephone support line: +1 (800) 652-2666, and sat on the phone with Hans, who got the printer to act appropriately and then asked me to update my Mac and then call back. I did and then spoke to Bill … we went through many of the things Hans tried and finally what worked was going into printers and scanners under system preferences and then choosing the IP icon … we switched something to AirPrint & that is what made it all work. They were both very patient with me and got my printer working! If you cannot get it on your own, I highly recommend scheduling a block of time to sit on the phone patiently with these folks and they will certainly do everything in their power to fix the problem. At least that is what they did with me today! Great job Bill and Hans!!! Thank you!!!!!

Oh and I should mention that before I spoke with Bill, Hans had me go into system preferences and printers and scanners and then take the printer off the list with the minus button … my call with Bill was all to get my Mac to detect the printer … so we shut off a lot of stuff … unplugged and waited for 10 seconds etc. before going in to change that one spot to AirPrint … and also he said it had to be changed in the bar down below, but after about 5 seconds, my computer updated that field for me anyway, so I didn’t have to select the AirPrint option on that drop down … then it printed right after that.

My printer won't stay on long enough to receive the firmware update. It's connected directly to my PC. No WiFi used. Disappointed in the performance of this product and the service pushed to my printer.  Please help remedy this.

Canon Maxify MB2320

Printer started power cycling when Canon screwed everyone else this past weekend.  I took the DNS "Fix" and instead of doing all of the steps I only....

  1. Unplugged the printer
  2. Unplugged the modem ethernet from the router (You could also turn off router)
  3. Plugged in the printer, it turned on by itself, cycled and finally brought me to the menu without shutting off
  4. Plugged the modem ethernet back into the router
  5. Test printed from the PC, worked
  6. Test print from mobile, worked
  7. So far, so good

Printer bought in 02.2015 and have never installed a firmware update and whatever Canon did this weekend, it still affected mine

Update: After turning off 2 routers in my house.

It succeeeded toianstall the update

Thanks

MG6650 also has the constant power down after the Canon logo appears, which software update resolves this issue on the MG6650?    It is not listed on the Service Notice page;
https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/product-advisories/detail/service%20notice...

this is not an acceptable solution!  I do not have a PC, i have an ipad and a cell phone neither of which can be connected to my printer thru a cable to install firmware.

I was able to update the firmware and fix the problem by preventing internet access to the printer and connecting with a usb cable.

I feel sorry for those people who really need to use a printer every day. Next one I buy won't be a Canon, that's for sure.
