PIXMA TR8620a Operation Panel Position for Printing

Greetings,

Just set up new TR 8620a.

Does the front "Operation Panel" need to be in open position to allow printing?

I would hope that it opens automatically but mine does not.

It is manually opened, and does need to be open for printer to work.

Poor design of Canon requiring the operation panel to remain open. A downgrade from my pixma MX882 which shut down due to full ink absorber, and is not supported according to Canon thus forced to buy a replacement. Oh well….

I am guessing the logic is that operating the printer locally requires seeing and using the LCD pad at reading it if it was vertical would be difficult.

Must be open. I just purchased this printer, and this is one stupid feature. Fortunately, I don't print a lot anymore, otherwise this printer would be returned. I mainly scan now.

It surely is a stupid design.  But the printer also works with the panel half open.

This is a known issue.  Requirement is probably a better word, not that it makes some who own this printer happy.

I keep my printers covered except when I'm using them.  Old house, dust.  However I can still print on my lasers with a cover on.
