New out of the box mp210 setup problems

I am following the easy set up instructions exactly. When I get to step six and turn the power on, the machine makes a loud mechanical noise like a muffled machine gun a mile away. The light never turns a solid green but continues to flash after the clatter stops. I get “E” for a half second, half second pause, 4 for a half second, half second pause, 2 for half second, half second pause, back to E again. These are codes for fine cartridge not recognized and out of paper, but in initial set up, the cartridge and paper are not yet installed or supplied - they are the next steps.

"New out of the box mp210 setup problems"

Greetings,

The MP210 was released in 2007.  You had one sitting around unopened for 15 yrs?

Yeah I got it in the box apparently never used. I think it was released then but sold for some years after. If you have the time and interest, I have a video here that shows the problem in operation.

Hello Charmedlife,

If you are getting that error during setup, it would mean the inks are not loaded properly or there is a problem with hardware. In this situation, you can remove the ink and check the printer interior for any packing material. Once the ink has been removed and you have checked for any obstructions, you can try turning the printer back on. If you still hear the noise or get the same error once the ink is reloaded, it would mean the printer needs service. You can use the link HERE to log into your My Canon account and check you service options.

Thank you very much. At this point, I am following the initial set up procedure. At this point, the cartridges are not yet installed. I have checked around for printer repairs and they want $130/hr for repair. I can get a refurbished one for $75 or so on ebay. Can you tell me whether this video provides any insights? Also, should it be that the printer is 15 years old, would the sealed ink cartridges likely still be good ink?
