Hello all. I have a Pixma MX490, when I placed the new ink cartridge in, it slammed a few times towards the right and then the error code 5100 came on. There is no paper jam and I even removed and reinstalled the ink cartridge just in case I did it wrong the first time but I kept slamming. How would I be able to solve this problem?

Hi,
Based on the steps you have taken, I recommend performing a reset of the printer. While the printer is on, unplug the power cord from the printer. While the power is off, press the power button 5 times. After 60 seconds plug the power cord back in and power on the printer.
If the issue persists, the printer would need to be replaced. Since the printer would require service or replacement, you would qualify for the Canon Upgrade Program.
This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a replacement product, discounted from the list price.
If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please the Canon Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 Mon-Sat, 9 AM to 9pm EST excluding holidays.
