Hi, JoeD1!
So that the Community can help you better, we need to know exactly which operating system is running on your computer (i.e. Windows or macOS, and which version thereof) and which app you're using for scanning. That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!
If this is a time-sensitive matter, click HERE search our knowledge base or find additional support options HERE.
Thanks and have a great day!

Danny, I have windows, I think version 10. I don't know the apps that I,m using for scanning. What I know is that I have been using the scanning feature for years and all of a sudden I get this code 5,206,8 which tells me I can't use more than 1 apps or user for scanning . I have no idea what thats all about. JOe

Hi,
You will want to make sure you are using IJ Scan Utility. Also, if your printer is connected via wifi make sure the printer is listed as MX490 series Network when IJ Scan Utility is open.
If you still get an error, try removing and reinstalling the printer/scanner driver from the Canon website.

Why is the answer always to use the IJ scan software? Did Canon secretly shut down the option to use the scanner panel on the device itself as it worked for many many years until the latest firmware update to the printer/scanner itself! 😕 The same as I used to be able to print black and white documents without a color cartridge being installed let alone full and once upon a firmware update that was changed so I can't use the device at all unless it has a full color cartridge in it. Makes me not want to purchase any more canon products in the future if they are nickle and diming their customer base. 😞
Shame on Canon.
