Canon MX926 printing black horizontal lines and nozzle test has shaded PGBK boxes

My canon printer MX926 has started printing bold black horizontal lines on everything that is printed.

I have printed out a nozzle check pattern and some of the boxes up the top of the page are slightly shaded in. Plus two black horizontal lines, one at the top of the page and the other under the last BK grey colour halfway down the page have printed on the the page.

I also printed out the manual head alignment page which has many black lines going across the page.

So is the print head buggered? Or can it be fixed?

Issue Overview

The Canon MX926 is experiencing a problem where it prints bold black horizontal lines, and the nozzle test shows shaded PGBK (Pigment Black) boxes. This typically indicates an issue with the print head, likely due to clogging or misalignment.

Troubleshooting Steps

Cleaning the Print Head

  1. Access the printer's maintenance settings.
  2. Select the option to clean the print head.
  3. Run the cleaning cycle and perform a nozzle check afterward to see if the issue persists.
  4. Print head cleaning procedure: https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/Manual/W/MX920%20series/EN/BG/Bg-Maintenance1400.html

Additional Recommendations

  • If cleaning does not resolve the problem, consider running a deep cleaning cycle if available.
  • Check for any firmware updates for the printer that might address printing issues.
  • If the problem continues, consult Canon's support for further assistance or consider professional servicing.
