Call to Arms for the dreaded U052 Wrong Printhead Error

This is a "call to arms" for all of you Canon customers who have had this problem and have had their printers disabled because of it.  Please respond with the model of your printer and if you were able to fix it, what you did to fix it. 

 

We need to put pressure on Canon to respond this product defect.  It appears to be bad firmware that does not allow the user to override the problem and to continue to use the printer even in a degraded mode.  From my investigations the problem is NOT a printhead issue - no way one can be printing fine and then have this error alert without having changed the printhead or ink cartridges!

 

Canon, PLEASE take this issue seriously and provide a solution across the affected models.  If nothing else there should be a trade-in allowance for those printers that have been affected by this product defect.

 

I have had many Canon printers because they have superior functional specifications. I want to be able to continue using Canon products but only if I can have confidence that this product defect will not destroy my investment.

 

If Canon is unresponsive our next step should be to aggressively publisize this product defect on social media and on major product vendor outlet sites as negatives reviews.

 

Forum Users, please reply with your affected model number(s) and with details of any succdessful fix procedure.

So sorry. No I did not read all who came before me so thanks for for psting (again) that a new printhead wont work. Also, though I tested them,) some of the email addresses I posted arent working as I did get some back from postmaster. Guess I didnt wait long enough for the reject. In any event, it appears they have removed my post. I'll try to post some technical blog address but they can probably "blacklist" me to prevent firther postings on the website. Still I am appalled at their response (and not printing) !!

Same here. I copied them and wrote to them all. I have saved them to pass around my circle of friends and on any forum I visit from now on.

Odd... They watch this forum closely (my repost of the email addresses came down almost immediately) yet offer NOTHING in terms of actual solutions much less addressing the bottom line. For a culture that prides itself on honor and 'face' the Canon approach to our concerns is to ignore that there is a problem. Those who have posted here must represent the tip of the proverbial iceberg; it would be interesting to know how many printers Canon has manufactured and sold. My personal opinion is that the Canon printer division is run by spineless cowards.

We can only assume that the culture of honor has been tainted by the culture of commercial gain. But I feel they have shot themselves in the foot with this bogus error trick. Canon's once respected product image has been irreparably damaged. So many of the posts above mention they will never buy another Canon product, including the lucrative photographic range! I also had a post removed. I posted a link to a photo of my MP560 after taking a sledgehammer to it. The post was instantly deleted. Perhaps they use automatic software to locate and delete a post that has an email address or web address. If so perhaps disguising it somehow would avoid detection.

THIS REFURBISHED PRINTHEAD WORKS FOR ME!

 

This product comes with an important caveat, that full color printing may be lost or compromised.

For me that was acceptable. For most users probably not. I just got it, plugged it in and got 2 good color prints. Maybe it will just do black after more use. But for a business-use MFC it's OK for my needs. Now I can print from the rear tray.

Sadly this week i have encountered this error on my PIXMA MX885 im from the UK so this looks pretty much world wide.

The printers been working for a couple of years and i can honestly say it was the best printer i've ever owned; Then this.
 
It occoured after i replaced the cyan ink tank before that it was 100% ok. Now i cant do anything, tried putting the old tank back no change, tried cannons solution multiple times no hope.

Very strange how it seems to have magicly occoured after a change in ink, and also have been magicly reported by soo many users.

So now im left with a choice of purchasing a replacement print head in the hope it resolves the issue, judging by all the posts i doubt it will.

Would be nice if Cannon at least give some definitive answers to the issue, their silence indecates all that needs to be said.
Reminds me of Nvida and HPs cover up of the "Nvidia Defect" i was also a victum of;

If you purchase a product and that product fails due to an inherent or manufacturing defect at any time up to six years from the date of purchase then both the Sale Of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) and the Limitations Act of 1980 gives you the absolute right in law to take legal action against the retailer.

The last part of the law you quote would appear to attack the retailer, not the manufacturer who caused the fault. Such a shame a legal redress would cost us more money to pursue. Perhaps that is why Canon are ignoring our pleas. PS. I have had four of the nine emails I sent to Canon executives bounced back as "undeliverable". Hopefully the other five hit their target.

When I get a minute I intend to write to the consumer pages of all the weekend papers about this.

 

Maybe some wider publicity might get Canon to actually address the issue, or at least come clean about what is causing it.

 

There are clearly too many people who have had the problem for it to be some sort of occasional glitch, and as somebody said above, those finding and posting on this thread must be just the tip of the iceberg.

 

I only found it because I googled the error message, but a lot of people probably wouldn't bother, or if they did wouldn't bother to actually join the forum to post on the thread.

HI!  I am on my 3rd canon printer in 10 years.  the first one was a lemon and canon refusd to do anything about it.  i also found out after 6 months of paying for on-the-phone help (while the printer and canon scanner were still under warranty)that BOTH components were hooked into the same port!  I was a newbie then.  

 

I bought another canon because of the picture print quality~~beautiful, once i got it to work.  However, I had the same error issues with the last printer, Pixma iP3500, and the current printer, MG5220~~dead print heads.  they last about 3 to 3.5 years with normal daily printing for home use/light business.  I was told this by a computer repair tech who is licensed for Canon printer repairs.  He was very informative and helpful. 

 

Basically, the home printers (between $100-$200~~approximate range) are made to burn out in the time mine did.  My printer worked fine on thursday.  I printed a few copies of a letter in black ink.  On Friday I tried to copy a bill payment and got the message  ERROR B200.  The ink was fine.  all canon tanks.  no empty msgs.  I tried everything, and conceded to a new printer.

 

I am shopping online for a new printhead for the MG5220 so I can use it solely for pictures.  I LOVE this printer and I'm really upset about the shortage of replacement parts.  Like you, I suggested some sort of swap of the broken one for a new one, as a long time Canon user.  They do have some loyalty program, but I bought an PIXMA MX922 for less than what the Canon store was willing to sell it for.  It was on Amazon.  I am waiting for it now.

 

They do have to do something about this issue because I now have 2 Canon printers that only need print heads and they can be used.
