PIXMA G2411 banding

  • Horizontal banding appears when printing on my PIXMA G2411 since a P08 error. Tried everything in different combinations and at different times: cleaning, deep cleaning, roller cleaning, ink flush, printhead alignment, wiping the encoder strip, manual printhead cleaning. Banding remains in the exact same spots on all pages. I have enough ink. I do not live near any service centers. The printer has not undergone heavy use, nor has it been underused.

Since deep cleaning and head alignment did not fix the banding, replacing the printheads is the correct next step.

Before You Buy
Make sure you purchase the correct genuine Canon replacements:
  • Black Head: Canon BH-4 (or CA91 / QY6-8002)
  • Color Head: Canon CH-4 (or CA92 / QY6-8018)

How to Replace the Printheads
  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Open the scanning unit (main cover) and wait for the printhead cartridge holder to move to the center.
  3. Press the blue ink valve lever down completely on the left and right sides to lock the ink lines. Crucial step to prevent ink leaking out or air bubbles entering the tubes.
  4. Open the carriage joint cover by pressing the two tabs inward and lifting it up.
  5. Remove the old printheads by pulling them straight out.
  6. Prep the new printheads by removing the protective orange caps and tape. Do not touch the gold contacts.
  7. Insert the new printheads: Put the Color head (C) into the left slot and the Black head (B) into the right slot.
  8. Close the carriage joint cover and press down firmly until it clicks into place.
  9. Press down the two blue buttons on top of the carriage.
  10. Lift up the ink valve levers to open the ink flow lines again.
  11. Close the scanning unit and let the printer initialize
