XF400 C LOG 3 Exposure

How do you properly expose C Log 3 on the XF400/405? An additional external monitor with waveforms is not a viable option. The Zebras are limited to only 70% and 100%. Is it possible that Canon could add a waveform monitor or adjustable Zebras via firmware?

Thanks for the help.

Dear MarshallC,

Thanks for checking in with us.

To properly expose C-Log 3, you could use a light meter to measure IRE values of a gray card and aim for an exposure around 30-40 IRE. Beyond that, if you don't have access to an external monitor, then it would be a matter of trial and error to come up with settings that work for your setup.

We have not announced plans for future updates for the XF400, but you are welcome to share your feedback about that by visiting the link below and clicking on the FEEDBACK heading on the top left of the page:

I agree, it's difficult to understand why Canon didn't include a WFM with the firmware update to support the 'Custom Picture' feature, not just for properly exposing Clog3, but for fine tuning the other gamma curve profiles with the custom edit settings. The XF300/305 had a WFM, as does the XC15, so why not the XF400/405 ? It is considered to be a professional grade camcorder after-all. Likewise the XA50/55 which gets the same CP features.

Even the HF-G10 I had years back had a WFM (XA10 and HF-G20 also) but for some reason it was dropped on the HF-G30 and XA20/25.

Another option, and possible alternative to a WFM, could be a 'false color' monitor but adjustable zebras are a must.
