imageFORMULA RS40 not connecting

I have a imageformula RS40 that's not connecting for me. I'm getting a "cannot find scanner check the power and cable" message.

- I checked the device manager, drivers are up to date and appear to be connected.
- Made sure the USB cable is connected, and connected firmly. It's the cable that came with the scanner.
- Device powers on.
- Shutdown the software completely, and rebooted the software,
- Rebooted my Computer.
- Made sure Windows is up to date.
- Ran the RepairReg.exe tool and rebooted the computer.

I also had the exact same issue.  I had purchased the scanner in 2022.  I tried all the things you tried.  I had purchased the scanner through Amazon.  I also purchased the extended protection.  I contacted Asurion who is responsible for the extended protection.    I sent it in to be repaired, they were unable to repair it.  Amazon refunded the full price of the scanner.  I loved the scanner, so I replaced it with the exact same scanner.

Hi,

I have exactly the same issue, tried all the same things.  Even got the printer swapped out by Amazon and the replacement is doing the same thing.  I can see the scanner in the device manager but the software just doesn't recognise that it's attached.  Weird thing is, the first one i got did work.  I managed to scan a bunch of photos but now i'm totally at a loss to why it's no longer working.

Did you manage to get yours working yet?

No, still having the same issue

I just got it to start working. This is what I did. I ran RepairReg.exe.
Under: C:\Program Files (x86)\Canon Electronics\CaptureOnTouch\Tools

Once it runs and fixes any issues, unplug the scanner from your computer and reboot your computer. Once your computer is up and running, replug it back in, and turn it on.

I had extra steps because I did this before, but didn't do as I outlined. So I had to delete the app and drives from my computer, reboot, and reinstall everything, which didn't fix it, but it allowed me to run RepaiReg.exe and have it repair it again.

Hope this helps

So again, just run RepairReg.exe> Under: C:\Program Files (x86)\Canon Electronics\CaptureOnTouch\Tools> Once it runs and fixes any issues, unplug the scanner from your computer and reboot your computer. Once your computer is up and running, replug it back in, and turn it on.

Greetings,

@Bear211, since this is your topic, it would be helpful if you told us the version and build of the operating system you are using the printer with?  Is this a new install, did the scanner ever work?

Software and drivers for your device can be found here:

Canon Support for imageFORMULA R40 Office Document Scanner | Canon U.S.A., Inc.

To help others, its very difficult to provide solutions when multiple users are posting to an individual's topic.  Since user environments can vary, its best if you start your own topic so your issue receives the visibility and support it deserves.  It's also not possible to mark a post as "solved" unless it's your own.  Thanks in advance.

Windows 11 Home build 26100.2605. When I first got it and installed everything, everything worked. The only thing that changed, was I got a Windows 11 update.

Same here - checked to make sure I had the newest driver.  This started right after the Windows update.  Worked fine before that.  Replaced scanner with the same exact one.   I'm crossing my finders.  The new scanner just came.  I'll be trying it out later today
