imagePROGRAF PRO-300 Black printing looks poor

Hi everybody. I have recently bought the Canon pro 300. I'm so far only printing on fine art matt papers. Many prints I've done have appeared washed out with the blacks looking particularly poor at times. I've reinstalled the printer a couple of times and that sometimes sorts it out. I noticed today that the PBK ink which is for gloss or satin papers is nearly empty and the matt black has hardly been used. I called Fotospeed this morning who told me to select fine art paper on the printer as it's set to Pro Platinum and this should sort it out. However, it hasn't changed anything. In any case, the printer automatically goers back to Pro Platinum as soon as I hit the print button. I don't understand why the printer is using the gloss black ink and as I understand it, Lightroom is supposed to override the printer settings on the actual printer. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm stuck! Thanks!

not an expert but I switched from the pro-200 to the pro-300 and the lucia inks that are used give the black a different looks more shimmery that almost make it look more grey to me and I think that's what your talking about? not 100% sure but just a suggestion you might not like the ink look.

What operating system?

If you are on a Mac the default to Platinum is something that happens if you are using the AirPrint driver.

Verify that you are using the Canon IJ Series driver.

Also, do not select Printer for managing color; select the actual paper ICC profile and media type.

Have you tried using Canon Professional Print & Layout?
