canon prograf PRO-310 Button Battery

I just purchased a canon prograf PRO-310 and the documentation says this has a standard size, but non-replaceable button cell battery. Seems to be a cause to reduce the lifespan of the product. Is this something anyone else has noticed?

Greetings ,

I did see this.  What I read said it's designed to last the life of the printer.  I'd expect that to be somewhere between 5 and 10 years depending on use.  The Pro 310 does not have a user replaceable ink absorber so if you do a lot of borderless printing, the service life would probably be +/- 5 years.  All depends on if it's being used for personal or commercial use.

As it's there to preserve the real-time clock I am thinking leaving the printer plugged in and powered on as recommended might extend the life of the battery.  I have my printer on a uninterruptible power supply for surge protection and to ensure it stays on during any brief power outages.

Thank you for your reply. It's a shame we seem to be building such short lifespans into so many products. (Certainly not just Canon). Maybe my research is not what it used to be. I did not see the non-replaceable button battery or ink absorber information prior to purchasing this printer. Also have a problem with the Serial number and registration I am trying to work out...

Thank you! I was certain it was for the clock, but was surprised a simple common button battery would not be replaceable.
