Tiny uniform dots like pinpricks along length of prints

I have an image prograf 1000 but I noticed this with my pixma pro 10 also.

Tiny uniform pinprick-like dots running along the length of the prints in several rows.  They look like gears with teeth were used to feed the paper and left tiny marks.

They are very subtle - I can usually only see them when bright sunlight catches them just right.  Still I feel they decrease the value of the print.

Raising the Paper Thickness (Head Height) setting seams to help.

Can anyone provide further info/advice on what these marks are and how to better avoid them?

Well I shined a flash light in the printer and watched as the paper came out and confirmed pointy-toothed paper feeding gears.
