Pixma MG5420 WiFi connection problem

Hal2k

The WiFi (WLAN) set-up works good all day after it starts.   But overnight when the printer is inactive it looses it.  When trying to print first thing in the morning I have to re-configure it using the "Standard Setup" method which involves typing in my WiFi password (a long and cumbersome process).  This machine is new (only 3 days old) and maybe this problem will eventually go away, but it hasn't for the last two mornings.   Anybody have this problem?  If so, how to fix?  Thanks.

Hi JJo,

With some routers, if activity is not detected on a device after a set period of time, the device will be removed from the routing table. When the printer enters standby, it also enables discontinuous reception to save power. This might cause the printer to be disconnected from the router when you attempt to print again.

To disable this feature:

  1. Select Setup on your printer's operation panel
  2. Select Device Settings
  3. Select  LAN Settings
  4. Select Other settings
  5. And then Wireless LAN DRX setting
  6. Set this option to Disabled

If the device is still disconnected after a long period of inactivity, I recommend contacting your router manufacturer for some additional options or settings you can change within the router itself.

I have connectivity issues as well. It's not the router. Turn off printer, unplug, nothing helps. It works fine for a while. Don't even know what ever happens for it to connect again... It just goes on and off... now it's off and I can't print! Very frustrating! Not showing up on my iphone when I have it right next to the printer so it's not signal strength! Won't print from laptop in next room either.

This is exactly the type of connection problem I am having and the problem was not solved by disabling the Wireless LAN DRX setting. My router is NOT the problem. I powers my other printer, iPad and Windows laptop without any problems. This printer is a huge disappointment. And I thought HP printers were bad. This Canon printer is worse!

Add me to the list.  Printer was working fine for a month or two, now the PC can't find the printer.  The printer appears on my router's list of connected devices, and I can ping it from my computer.  The printer just won't talk to anything over the connection.   I reset all, reconnected, re-installed the printer, all with no more connection. Going to try the USB cable, at least that may save me from throwing the whole thing away.

My print out says SIGNAL STRENGTH is 100%. Still not able to print with the MG5350.. Any other advice?

I found if the printer goes offline I have to go into the menu and key in the password to get the connection back...

My Airprint will only connect for about 10 seconds. This is so annoying

Upgrade your router to wireless N. It needs the newer technology for a stronger wireless signal.
