Pixma MG2922 driver installation issue

I'm having an issue just getting the driver I downloaded from Canon to install. My PC is using Vista Home edition (32 bit). The package (win-mg2900-1_1-ucd, that was labeled "Recommended package" on the driver page when I downloaded it) proceded to unpack using WinZip but then stopped, giving me the following error message:

"Failed to acquire information on the driver and software. Check the network connection and try again."

with an "OK" button. Repeated attempts gave me the same result. I tried turning off certain options during the "unpacking" but could not. Am I missing something here?

Printer now works, but scanner doesn't. even though the scanner starts to perform, after a few seconds an error code (2,156,50) appears with a message telling me that the USB cord isn't connected or the scanner is off. Somewhere else I read where the firewall might be an issue, so I turned that off. Still no go. Any ideas?
