I have 2 computers on my network that have an error when trying to scan to my MF644CDW Printer/scanner.
It says "Cannot communicate with the scanner. The cable may be disconnected, or the scanner may be turned off. Check the scanner statue and try again. Scanner driver will be terminated."
I can print to the printer and the scanner selector software sees the printer/scanner and when I install the MF Scan utility software it sees the scanner. It works fine from other computers on my network, but not 2 of them. All windows 11 computers. I have tried everything I can think of like disabling the firewall and security settings. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

Any solutions yet?

I just had to do a Clean Install of Windows 11 and found too that the MF Scan Utility would not communicate with my MF726Cdw. I even installed (and left it in place) the Windows 10 (x64) [Windows 32-bit & 64-bit] Patch for Network Scan, USB Scan. Still no luck.
During my Windows 11 re-install, updates also were installed: 2024-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5048667) and 2024-11 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 24H2 for x64 (KB5045934).
Still had issues UNTIL...
An optional Windows update was also posted: 2024-11 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 24H2 for x64 (KB5048162) was installed today and voila!! MF Scan Utility now communicates with my MF726Cdw!! It looks like Microsoft fixed something.

I read this article this past weekend.

Just purchased imageCLASS MF455dw and experiencing the same issue connecting to network scanner using MF Scan utility. Most certainly something to do with Win11 24H2 feature release as mentioned throughout this thread (and others). I did see someone suggested using Windows Scan Utility and that connects as expected. Will need to continue to use until MS fixes what they broke.

My client uses the scan-to-computer function from the printer itself, and that doesn't work using the Canon software. I will have them try using Windows Scan Utility, but my guess is that something with the driver is still broken.

Hello, first of all I'm disappointed in Canon. Upon buying this printer MF465dw. Most people say the set up is easy as drinking water. Upon finding out, the scanner App as directed to installed is the most difficult thing to set up.
I keep getting error on my Window 11 PC: Cannot communicate with the scanner. The Cable may be disconnected, or the scanner may be turned off. Check the scanner status and try again. Scanner driver will be terminated.
Also, I'm not sure why the scanner is separated from the Canon Print App on my desktop. I thought the scanner option should be in the app to give customer the ease to do everything from the app on their desktop?
If anyone from the Canon team has a easy fix solution to this error, please reply. Sorry to say, it is disappointing. The scanner app Canon MF Scan Utility recognized my scanner so I'm not sure how it's not connected.

I have the same problem. I can print through Wifi but I can't get the scanner to work. I can scan from my cell phone though. I have the 24H2 os build 26100.2454 and I have the imageclass MF654Cdw laser all in one printer. I was disappointed because I just bought this from Best Buy and when I called tech support the automated system said I could not get live help for my purchase.

For what it is worth, I am finding that when the driver for the scanner is installed on Windows 11 if you look at device manager the device is disabled. Enabling it doesn't seem to change anything, but there is a message:
Driver Management has concluded the process to add Service StillCam for Device Instance ID ROOT\CANON_MF_NETWORK\0001 with the following status: 0.
What does that mean, because it seems to be the crux of the issue. The issue is absolutely with the driver not installing correctly.

I'm also having this problem. Just set up a brand new Win11 laptop and install the mf634cdw drivers and MF Scan Utility. Also on Win11 24H2 (26100.2314). Tried all the usual things - remove and reinstall, firewall, sfc /scannow
This is ridiculous. I'm disappointed in Canon. Actually, just read tjfitz68's comment above. Looks like it's Microsoft's fault, again... I knew win11 was going to be a hassle.
