Connecting Canon MG7120 to MacBook Pro

MyCat

I am trying to connect my 2023 Macbook Pro to my Canon MG7120 Printer, but cannot. I figure I just had to connect my macbook with a usb C adaptor to the printer and it would come up. The print window pops up and when I click on the printer options, I click on add printers and a new window pops up.

It has the Canon MG7100 series on there, but then it asks me to choose a driver. When I click on it, the options it gives me is:

1. Select Software

2. Other

When I click on select software, it has other ones on there but not anything canon.

When I click on Other, it just takes me to what is in my computer likje documents or downloads, basically differrent file folders.

I don't know what to do to make this all work. Please Help!

Note: I have never used this printer with this new MacBook before so it's not on there, nor does it recognize it. Also, even with my old macbook, I was not able to connect to the printer via wirelessly. So I thought if I connected it with cables, it would be more straight-forward, but it wasn't.

Based on the Canon support page for the printer the most recent macOS that has a driver is Catalina (macOS 10.15).

Canon Support for PIXMA MG7120 | Canon U.S.A., Inc.

It does show up on the Apple AirPrint list, so when you select Add Printer choose Bonjour printer when the list of printers appears.

Thanks for the reply. I tried to look for the Bonjour Printer, but this is what I got instead.

I clicked on printer > then add printers > I selected Canon USB > Then Choose Driver > Then Select Software > Then The window with the list of software pops up.Screenshot 2025-01-10 at 9.31.40 PM.png

Sometimes it comes up USB. That should connect you to the AirPrint driver for the printer.

That's fine, but I literally selected 'canon MG7100 series' where it says under 'kind' to be USB (the window entitled 'add printer.'

It still wants you to choose a software.

Not given much choice, I click on the 'select software' where it says 'Use.'

And then the window to the left of it pops up, entitled 'Printer software'.

It has a list of software to choose from and I am not sure which one of those works, if any work at all.

So I basically don't know where to go from there.

Can you post screenshot of software choices?

None of that software applies to your printer. Can you just proceed without selecting?
