Connecting PIXMA MX870 to print from MacBook Pro on Tahoe 26.x

MX870 prints fine from Win10 and Win11 laptops, prints fine from iPhone (limited feature).  Cannot print from MacBook running Tahoe (MacOS 26.x) - via WiFi.

Have tried IP print and installed CUPS driver from Gutenberg.  Also tried at least one paid app (MacAPP from maximaapps.com ) - still unable to print.

Am reasonably tech-savvy but am new to MacOS

Suggestions and advice much appreciated.

Thanks.

Challenges getting MacBook to print on MX870.

Print on MX870 fine from both Win10 and Win11 laptops, and prints fine from iPhone (limited feature).  Cannot print from MacBook running Tahoe (MacOS 26) - via WiFi.

Have tried IP Print and installed the CUPS driver from Gutenberg - jobs seem to spool to somewhere, but do not get to printer.  Also tried at least one paid app (SmartPrinter from Maximo apps) still unable to print.  As suggested, have reset and restarted both printer and MacBook - still nada).

Am reasonably tech-savvy, but am new to MacOS.  About to get a USB cable to see if that helps with setup.

Appreciate any suggestions.  Thanks!

Hello emcee1164,

Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PIXMA MX870 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!

Thank you, Ron.  Appreciate the suggestion - am going to try to get the MX870 to work via WiFi. It already works via USB cable, and am currently exploring a fix others have used to get it to work.

Understand the Upgrade Program is the recommended path, and will keep this in mind.

After enough trial-and-error, am deciding its time to call this one... even the paid apps could not get it to work.
Went with the back-up and went with the 'long USB cable' option -- meets my needs and should stay stable for now.
I still know several seasoned (25+ YOE) IT consultants that would rather not mess with WiFi always travel with a 45-60 ft cat-x cable in their kit.

Unrelated, but also resolved the persistent 5B00 error code (ink absorber full) with my MX870. Ran the Canon Service Tool v3400 tool (finding and downloading one was 85+% the battle) to reset the count and printer works fine.

All good.  Appreciate all the suggestions and advice.
