PowerShot G7 X: How to undo skin smoothing settings on camera

Bnpiazza

Hi! I have a g7x and took photos that the skin smoothing was accidentally turned all the way up and now they look way over edited. Is there a way to undo this setting on a photo that’s already been taken? Thank you!

Skin smoothing and other effects are applied only to JPG images and once done cannot be reversed.  However, if you also recorded in RAW, then the original image, as shot, will be retained.

As Trevor noted, there is no undo if you only have JPG images.  You may be able to counteract some of the effect by applying significant sharpening to the image using a jpg editor.

Thank you! How will I know if the image is taken in RAW?

On the computer: look at the extension, it will be .crX

On the camera, hit playback and press the info or disp button to change the data shown with the playback.

To set RAW, see P90 of your User Guide (which you need to go through).  For access to the on-line PDF version see: https://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/3/0300016123/01/psg7x-cu-en.pdf

I suggest you shoot in the bottom mode - both RAW and JPG, so you are covered either way.  RAW images need to be processed out of Camera in Post-Processing software like Canon's free Digital Photo Professional.
