Transitioning to Canon from being a very long time Nikon user:
Just over 2 weeks ago I purchased a R5 Mk II camera body with high expectations based on brand reputation, online reviews and sample pictures seen online. I have no close friends that own this model that I can ask or get on the spot advice from.
Please help me determine whether to keep, return or swap it for an another identical model. The clock is running in regards to a decision.
The unit obviously is pricey (4k), been out there since roughly 08/24 and for budget conscious birdwatchers like myself paired with the RF 100-500 lens.
Mine had been in storage for quite awhile as out of the box it had 1.0.3 software which I updated and also had a couple of factory resets done in the setting up stage.
In the store, when evaluating the cameras basic functionality, I very quickly discovered something was wonky with the EVF when looking through it, especially in manual mode which is what I use. One would reasonably expect a brand new camera to show natural colors and brightness when viewing an object, subject or scene like one was looking out of a clear window. The reverse was true. I promptly brought this to the salespersons attention who basically had nothing to say and didn’t correct the situation: Yes, in retrospect, before finalizing the deal, I should have made an issue and not taken it home in that state of affairs without resolving my concern satisfactorily.
What I see even as of the time of this post:
a) Image: artificial/unnatural/colors missing
By that for starters the image seen is exceedingly blue. Point the lens at a white car and it has a distinctly bluish tint which of course isn’t accurate. It’s like the white balance was deliberately set at 3500k or so, however, that’s not the case as its currently set @ 5000k which is supposedly neutral. Outdoors any red, yellows and oranges seem to be or are suppressed or not seen.
b) The EVF’s brightness levels are way off and is definitely either too dark or too bright.
I have not knowingly messed with or altered any of those types of settings as the camera is very new to me being my 1st contact with the Canon world and also mirrorless.
So, the above being the case, I need to determine:
1) Is it a settings issue and if so what will restore the view to where it should be?
2) Is the EVF (et. al.) defective in some way, whereupon it will be returned and/or swapped for another R5 Mk II?
Please, during my 15+ years of Nikon experience with at least 5 DSLR cameras (including the D-800/D-810 and D-850, it was you see is what you get so to speak! How do I restore, achieve or obtain what should be automatically exist and be present without concern or further investment of time endeavoring to get this rectified?
Thank you in advance. I want to make this purchase a keeper. Please help make this happen.

if you didn’t like it , then why did you buy it?
I don’t know what wonky means. I suggest you work this out with the seller.

If it was me I wouldn't wait for answers here. Take it back to where you purchased it and try a different body.

Reset the camera and try it in full auto mode. If it is still not satisfactory return it.
