MF753cdw scanning with low ink

Hopefully a simple question. Do Canon Multifunction printer still scan/fax when they have low ink. Similar to hp printers won't work unless the ink is replace. If so, it seems the way to beat printer companies is to just buy new printers at half the cost of new ink. 

Bought my MF753cdw for $350 and new cartridges are $800 for the whole set. LMAO

You will still be able to print or scan when the toner or ink is low in our multifunction printers. The toner can be low, but the toner cartridge will still need to be in the printer. A cartridge detection message can prevent the printer from working properly.
