Black is too light and colors streaky - MF644Cdw

charliemullin

Black text and imiages are printing in a medium gray, and colors are uneven and blotchy. This new behavior started after a router issue forced me to re-initialize the printer. Prior to that, printing was fine.

Following some procedures I found in other threads, here is what I've tried so far, and what the results were:

  1. Clean Fixing Assembly - This seemed to execute properly but the printing issues were not resolved.
  2. Correct Print Color Mismatch - After churning for a mnute or two I got this message: Could not perform correction.
  3. Auto Adjust Gradation - Full Adjust -  After churning for a mnute or two I got this message: Could not perform correction.
(Never proceeded to subsequent sub-steps, since nothing printed out.)

What could have happened during the printer initialization to cause all the settings to be so maladjusted? How can I fix this now?

Note that I am currently using GPC Image toner cartridges, which have worked just fine.

Any guidance would be most appreciated.

I am having this problem as well and also the printer is making quite a loud noise when printing.  Also seeing dots of ink splattered on the pages even when printing in greyscale.

Hi,

Welcome to The Canon Forums!

Please ensure  <Toner Save> is off.

You can save toner consumption. Select <OFF> when you want to check the layout or other appearance characteristics before proceeding to final printing of a large job.

Menu>  <Function Settings>  <Printer>  <Printer Settings>  <Print Quality>  <Toner Save>  Select <Off> or <On>

A possible cause may be that there is a problem with the original or the amount remaining in toner cartridges is running low. Check the following:

Does the original have background color, is it stained, or are you copying an original such as a newspaper that is printed on thin paper so that text or images on the other side are visible through the paper?

Check the original and then adjust the density to the correct settings. Are white areas lightly colored?
Change the setting of <Prevent Fogging>. Setting to <On> may solve the problem. <Adjust Image Quality>

NOTE
If you set to <On>, print density may be lighter.

Is the amount remaining in toner cartridge running low?
Check how much the amount remaining in toner cartridges is left, and replace the toner cartridges as necessary.

Regardless of the displayed toner level, the toner cartridge may have reached the end of its lifetime due to the machine's environmental conditions and the deteriorated materials in the cartridge. Replace with Canon geniune toner cartridges.

I've read the three different queries on this exact same topic and none of he solutions proposed work. But the "product experts" who propose these solutions all say one thing in common without really giving away the real answer to the problem. They all emphasize the importance of this: "Replace with Canon genuine toner cartridges."

I think we all now know why this error occurs. Canon has engineered in a way to detect an otherwise very high qulaity but non OEM cartridge and ultimately the printers built to that specification will deliberately fail to "punish" the quilty parties who refused to pay the exorbitant prices for the cartridges sold by Canon. Gotcha!

I have the same problem with a 2-day-old printer. Try this and tell me if it changes the print quality
