Problem with new password update. I was on an event and went to put password in and I put wrong password. Because I was talking to the client, I didn't read the message that popped up (My fault). I assumed it was asking me if I wanted to try my password again. Just before the Camera restarted, I saw that I hit OK to reset my camera. What? Why? Holy Cow!!! What is the prepose of the password if it's that simple to still get into the camera? Most importantly why would that message pop-up to reset the camera on the first failed attempt of a password?
Yes, I freaked out. All my settings gone! If you really want to update something Canon, make it so the saved settings can't be formatted. That would be cool.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Greetings ,
Respectfully, I think you might have been a bit hasty. The feature is well documented in the firmware's release notes and in the R5 mkII's user guide.
Password Management

I started a topic on this when the firmware was released.
This video currently sits at the top of the Canon Community's landing page.
In hindsight the only other thing I can recommend is that you make a back up of your settings and save to an SD card for just this kind of thing.
This was not Canon you can thank the European Union for imposing this security requirement that is designed to keep unauthorized persons from seeing your Wi-Fi and USB connection details. As silly as it might be imagine if you had to contact Canon to unlock your camera. Thankfully, Canon has ensured you don't lose access to your camera. Unfortunately things like this never happen at a convenient time. Hopefully you were able to recover quickly 😉

Well there you have folks. It's very important to read about the updates. Thanks Rick that explains it completely. Also, I recovered enough to take the shoots. I'm a back button Focus person. I use all three buttons in the back for focusing points and couple other tweak settings. So for a while I had to use the regular focus and shoot method. It got confusing but I got the job done.
Thanks again Rick

You as well. Glad it only slowed you down for a quick minute. 😀
