Greetings,
Canon has begun to implement a new [optional] security feature. This is being introduced with new firmware. This password protection is to meet new European Union regulations under the Radio Equipment Directive. The rollout is staggered.
Compatible EOS R Cameras (this is subject to change)
EOS R1
EOS R3
EOS R5 Mark II
EOS R5
EOS R6 Mark II
EOS R7
EOS R8
EOS R10
EOS R50
EOS R50V
Information about the feature is available below (example R50v). The process will be the same for any body that receives the feature via firmware that includes the enhancement.
See Setting A Password in the link below.
https://cam.start.canon/en/C021/manual/html/UG-01_Preparations_0050.html#Preparations_0050_5
You can check if a new firmware version includes the enhancement by reading the release notes. See more download info.
Improves security features. A password must be set initially.
•Adds the ability to review the history of any changes made to the password, network information, or other settings.
*For more information, please refer to the 'Setting a Password' section in the Advanced User Guide on cam.start.canon.
Note that firmware updates are cumulative so once you install at minimum a version that includes the enhancement, it will be present moving forward.
Please note that using this feature is optional. After setting a PIN you can opt out of using the feature which means you will not have to enter a password to use the camera when it is turned on or resumes from sleep.
Select do not ask again to disable the feature.

To piggyback on Ricks great post.
Be aware that once disabled the only way to currently reactivate the password is to perform a factory reset of your body. Resetting the body will return all settings to their defaults so be prepared to reconfigure your settings
If your body has the ability to save custom settings you may want to back them up prior to completing the reset.
On the R6M2 the password can be toggled on and off on the password manager tab.

Does Exposure Simulation stay active all the time with flash now. Or do you have to press the depth of field preview button for Exposure Simulation to work with flash every time. Or could you make it the default to always use Exposure Simulation with flash in the menu. Unless you go into the menu system and disable it. Also does the lens stop down too or does it stay wide open. I know modeling flash isn’t possible on the EOS R series. Hopefully one day Canon can bring it in some way.

Thanks Newton and John, I stand corrected on the reset to enable. The information is helpful as I couldn't locate the option on my R6 MkII.

I updated my R50v > 1.1.1 which includes the security enhancement. I used the Canon Connect App which I have never done before. 😀. The updates for Cinema OS are rather large.
After the restart I was prompted to set language, and a password, 6 digits. I then used Newton's suggestion and went straight to the Wrench menu tab3 on the R50v. Select > Manage Password. The screen changes and you see > Password Request : [Enabled]. You are prompted for the password which unlocks the menu and makes it editable. Change to [Disabled]. Press menu to save. I then powered the camera off and back on. I was not prompted to enter a password and the camera was ready for immediate use. While I don't see myself using this feature, it's a step in the right direction. 🙂

Same here Rick, after reading Newton's post thankfully I was able to unlock all my bodies that were updated. I can't believed I missed it and appreciated the guidance from everyone in this thread.

While I will update the firmware today on my R6m2 and R8 (nothing for my antique RP?) I am glad there is an option to not use the password. That would get annoying real quick - like in the first 5 minutes, lol.
Besides, if anyone steals one of my cameras, they might as well get the same enjoyment out of it that I did. 😂

Password protection on my cameras is a patently useless feature for me. I guess the Euros love their over-regulation. Alas...

Lee ,
Remember, they were largely responsible for the 29:59 recording limit 🤣. 🤑 💰

I did not know that, what was the reasoning behind it?
